Valoopy's review of RAGE
Valoopy's review of RAGE
Edit
Having moments ago finished the campaign, I feel now is a good time to wrote this. First, I would simply like to state that a lot of advertisement was generated for this game. Between Burning Jacob's Ladder and RAGE HD for iPhone, there was a good deal of promotions for this game. Now, onto the actual game. The Wasteland is absolutely beautiful to look at. My friend who works at Gamestop says RAGE is "the prettiest game I've seen", and I completely agree with him. Even though textures may take a while to load, the game still looks stunning, and could almost be taken as a work of art. And each bandit hideout felt unique, as well. From the Shrouded workshop to Capital Prime, you really saw how each group lived. And the Dead City was too eerie to describe easily. Giant, bloody lumps of flesh from experiments-gone-wrong grew out of buildings, showing that the Dead City was very much alive. Next, I loved the AI for the campaign. Each bandit group actually felt like it was different from the others. Ghosts get to you with parkour, Gearheads use their armor to THEUR advantage, and Authority soldiers will take a tactical approach at killing you, just to give a few examples. Unlike most modern war games where the formula is "take cover, jump up, spray bullets, repeat", the AI in RAGE actually seems intelligent. Bandits can be heard communicating and coordinating their actions. For instance, one Shrouded bandit may call out for the squad to move back, while another pops a grenade at the player in their retreat. Voice acting and motion capture animation in this game were also very good. I was sad that I didn't get to talk with Redstone more, as I could only think of Roy Campbell the whole time he talked. There were sone major downsides to RAGE, however. First off, many things were left unexplained. Some examples include the flesh all over Dead City, or who this General Cross really was. At times, it felt like id was setting this up for a sequel. Secondly, nearly all the quests were repetitive fetch quests, but luckily they did go through some interesting areas to keep them entertaining. The game also felt very short upon completion, and the ending (no spoilers, FYI) could have been much better, as it felt very rushed. In the end, it seemed like id was just itching to get back in the game, and the proved they still are the kings of shooters. Unfortunately I can't say anything in multiplayer as I haven't played it yet, but it is only co-op missions or vehicle based events. Overall, I'd rate this game a 7/10, but it has low replay value. If you're a fan of apocalyptic games, I'd recommend you at least rent this game.
